Privacy Policy

Draft — last updated 9 July 2026

Draft. This policy is a working draft, pending legal review. It is not yet in effect and may change before Cinebrowser's account and licensing features go live.

1. The short version

Cinebrowser's AI — semantic search, face recognition, everything — runs entirely on your device. Your footage and any face data are processed locally and are never uploaded to our servers. We can't see your clips, and we don't want to.

What little we do collect is limited to running your account and license: your email, a hashed password, license and activation records, any emails you send us, and — only if you opt in — anonymous crash and usage data. That's it. This policy explains each piece in plain language.

2. Who we are

The data controller responsible for your information is [Your legal name and address]. You can reach us about anything in this policy — including any request about your data — at support@cinebrowser.com.

3. What we collect, why, and our legal basis

We collect as little as we can. Here is everything, and the lawful basis for each:

Data Why we hold it Legal basis
Account email + hashed password To create and operate your account and let you sign in. Contract
License key + activation records (including a random device ID) To deliver your license and enforce it across your devices. Contract, plus our legitimate interest in preventing piracy
Support & suggestion emails To answer you and to improve the product. Contract, or our legitimate interest in supporting and improving Cinebrowser
Opt-in telemetry — crash reports and anonymous usage data To find and fix bugs and make the app better. Consent — off by default, and you can turn it off any time

The random device ID is a value we generate — it is not your hardware serial number or any other identifier tied to your machine. And to be completely clear: we never collect your video footage or your face data. Those stay on your device.

4. Who we share it with

We don't sell your data, and we share it only with the service providers who help us run Cinebrowser. When accounts and paid licensing go live, those will include:

  • a payment provider / merchant of record, to handle purchases and billing;
  • a hosting and authentication provider, to store account and license records securely;
  • an email delivery provider, to send account and support messages;
  • a website analytics provider, to understand traffic to this site.

Each of these acts on our instructions under a data-processing agreement. Your footage is shared with no one, because it never leaves your device in the first place.

5. International transfers

Some of our providers are based in the United States. Where your information is transferred outside your region, we rely on appropriate safeguards — such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses — to protect it.

6. How long we keep it

  • Account & license records — for as long as your account is active, and a short period afterward in case you come back or need support.
  • Support & suggestion emails — typically 12–24 months.
  • Opt-in telemetry — kept only briefly and in aggregated form.
  • Billing records — for the period we're legally required to retain them for tax and accounting.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to access the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, export it, object to certain processing, and withdraw any consent you've given (such as for telemetry). To exercise any of these, email us at support@cinebrowser.com. We'll reply within one month.

8. Children

Cinebrowser is a professional tool and is not directed to children under 13. You must be at least 13 (and 18 or older to make a purchase) to use an account. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children — if you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we'll delete it.

9. Security

We protect your information with sensible safeguards: passwords are stored hashed (never in plain text), data in transit is encrypted with TLS, and access to our systems is limited to those who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but keeping your footage on your device removes the single biggest thing there'd be to protect.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Cinebrowser grows or as the law requires. When we make a material change, we'll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, let you know. Continuing to use Cinebrowser after a change means you accept the updated policy.

11. Contact

Questions about your privacy, or want to make a data request? Email us — a real person will read it.
